Love My Greece Art Retreat itinerary

An exclusive journey through creativity, culture, and the captivating sights of Aegina, Greece

I believe that art is not just a skill; it’s a powerful means of expression, a voyage of self-discovery, and a profound connection with the world around us. I have designed an art retreat itinerary that goes beyond conventional offerings.

Drawing from my personal experiences and my passion for art, I invite you to join me on a transformative journey. My love for Aegina’s unique charm are at the heart of this retreat. My goal is to create an environment where every moment becomes an opportunity to connect with your inner artist.

Sue Mac Dougall, your Love My Greece Art Retreat hostess

Details in the day-to-day itinerary may be changed and tweaked as our arrival date draws near or during the trip itself. Any changes made will be to further enhance and enrich the quality of the experience.

We begin each day with breakfast at the retreat accommodation. Breakfast is usually served between 8am and 10am.

At 10am we start the day’s adventure, exploring a new destination or activity.

Your accommodation is at The Beachhouse Apartments. You can find out more about where you’ll be staying here.

Day 1

Meet your hostess, Sue, at the Port of Piraeus at Gate E8 early in the morning, then catch the hydrofoil or ferry over to Aegina. The trip takes about an hour.

Once we arrive at the port in Aegina we will take a taxi or rental car/van to The Beachhouse Apartments, 30 minutes from the port.

Enjoy introductions and a welcome lunch. A ‘Welcome to Aegina’ pack will be provided that has lots of information about Aegina Island, and surrounding islands. Included in the pack is a map of Aegina and an overview of activities for retreat.

Day 2

Following breakfast, the morning is spent at the retreat accommodation, where you’ll immerse yourself in the world of colour. We start with 5 to 10 minutes of meditation to clear our minds.

You get to experiment with the colour wheel, exploring various hues, and gaining insight into the tones of black-and-white shading. During this time, you’ll have the opportunity to take in the Greek light, the ever-changing hues of the sea, and the vibrant colours of your surroundings and use this to inspire and enhance your creativity.

Enjoy lunch at a nearby Greek restaurant, savouring the local flavours. Following your meal, the afternoon is yours to explore Aegina, using your free time as you please.

Day 3

At 10 AM, we will take a car or van to the Kolona Column site, near Aegina town. Here you will begin a captivating journey through time as you explore the remarkable site and delve into the rich history of Aegina at the Archaeological Museum. Imagine standing on the very grounds that once served as the epicenter of religious and political life on this enchanting island, where the archaic temple of Apollo once stood tall.

While at the Archaeological Museum of Aegina, allow your creativity to flow by sketching or painting the intriguing artifacts on display. This museum, established on the historic date of October 21, 1828, by Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first governor of independent Greece, holds a treasure trove of ancient wonders.

In the afternoon we will explore Aegina township, visiting the stores, and savour the flavours of Greece with a late lunch at a local restaurant. We will then travel back to The Beachhouse Apartments where you can enjoy a relaxing afternoon by the beach.

Day 4

After breakfast, we will spend the morning at the retreat accommodation reviewing what you’ve painted so far and receiving feedback from everyone. We start with 5 to 10 minutes of meditation to clear our minds.

Enjoy a delicious lunch at a local Greek restaurant. You then have free time to relax at The Beachhouse Apartments, or catch a taxi to explore one of the many interesting sites in Aegina.

Day 5

Following breakfast, take a taxi to the enchanting Temple of Aphaia, nestled within a sanctuary devoted to the goddess Aphaia on the picturesque Greek island of Aegina in the Saronic Gulf. Once known as the Temple of Jupiter Panhellenius, this magnificent Doric temple is now acknowledged for its dedication to the mother-goddess Aphaia. Here, you’ll have another opportunity to sketch or paint amidst the ancient ruins.

Enjoy a delightful lunch in the local area at Ag. Marina. Following your meal, you can unwind with a swim or relax on the beach, and when you’re ready, a taxi will be waiting to take you back to the retreat accommodation.

Day 6

Following breakfast, we will take a car or van to Aegina town where you can immerse yourself in its rich historical sites.

You’ll encounter the Tower of Markellοs, which traces its origins to the 17th century. This tower served as a vital part of the harbour fortifications, used by the Venetians as a watchtower. In 1802, it underwent renovation thanks to Spiridon Markellos, a prominent Aeginean revolutionary and later Member of Parliament, from whom it derives its name.

Lunch will be at a local Greek restaurant, where you’ll savour yet more of the wonderful flavours of the island. Following our meal, you have the choice of returning to The Beachhouse Apartments where you can spend the afternoon relaxing, or continue exploring Aegina town and return to The Beachhouse Apartments later in the afternoon.

Day 7

After breakfast, we spend time admiring our creative works, adding any final touches to our pieces, and sharing our artistic journey. We start with 5 to 10 minutes of meditation to clear our minds.

You get to enjoy a last afternoon of free time to relax by the beach, or explore more of Aegina island.

Enjoy a farewell dinner and drinks at a local restaurant to finish off your retreat.

Day 8
